thonon l. bains - evian - lausanne

this morning, not quite as early as we thought, we set off at a leisurely pace.

the start was quite challenging. barely underway, we were heading up the hill. once, twice, and three times. then it was time for breakfast and we enjoyed coffee, bread, and a bit of cheese.

then we continued. the route was supposed to go mostly along the main road. but then we noticed that it was indeed uphill but continued beautifully on an old railway track. exactly what one wishes for.

on the way, we stopped at an intermarche to do some shopping. this way, we are independent again and can keep driving.

when we crossed the border, we took another break and had some fruit and iced tea. yes, iced tea. because water gets boring after a while and doesn’t provide any energy. no idea what one burns, but what goes in is quite a bit. lots of fluids and food, preferably in carbohydrate form.

in montreux, it was a bit of a hassle to ride along the lake, as there seems to be some kind of festival coming up again soon.

a bit later, we had lunch. salad with tuna and bread/cheese contributed to our strength.

we then headed into lavaux, and already in vevey we had to detour around the nestlé facility.

just driving wasn’t enough. we had to make one important stop. because urs's shoe wouldn't come off the pedals and that was a bit annoying and of course also dangerous. screw loosened. problem solved.

in lavaux, after a few hundred meters of elevation, we no longer felt like pushing the bike in the heat, as it was just too steep. no idea what they planned there...

after that, we safely arrived in lausanne at the campsite. actually, we had a spot for tents but there was no power connection. so I discussed the missing charging possibility with the reception and voilà, we received our own spot with a power connection.

after the obligatory cooling off with foam, I went shopping. there was chicken steak with pasta and mushrooms as sauce.

we ended the evening with a glass or rather a cup of wine by the lake.
