Due to the complicated holiday planning by René, we are only planning a 2-week vacation in the summer this year. Iceland has been on our list for a while, and thus the Nordic island state, characterized by its spectacular landscapes shaped by volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, and lava fields, is our destination. Once again, a camper will be our means of transportation, and we start on the night of June 28, 2025, driving to Frankfurt to the airport. The roads are clear, and René reliably drives the 3 hours to the booked parking lot. Everything goes smoothly there as well, so we are already at Terminal 2 of the airport by 4:30 AM. Now follows the usual procedure. On time at 7 AM, the Boeing takes off. The sun is shining, and in Germany, it is expected to be over 30 degrees today. We hope for good and, above all, dry weather in Iceland. Our flight lasts 3.5 hours, and thanks to the time difference, we gain an additional 2 hours. The flight is also calm, and I can still sleep a little. Our luck continues, as the sun is shining in Keflavík. A taxi is quickly found, but the fare of €35 for a maximum of 5 kilometers is overpriced. However, the camper rental company wants €80 for the tour. After the briefing, we head north to Reykjavík. There isn't much on the agenda: shopping and setting up the camper. Our shopping trip at Netto is expensive. We pay €234 for our shopping basket and hope to get by for a while. Alcohol is available at the Liquid Store. We purchase cider for the coming days. At the only pre-booked campsite on our journey, we unpack our bags and set up. It takes a while for everything to find its place. Then we stroll through the nearby park, and the kids enjoy the sports and playgrounds.
The temperatures are pleasant in the sun. The stated 17 degrees feel like 20. In the evening, we grill hamburgers on our sandwich toaster that we brought along. Unfortunately, our neighbors are parked the wrong way, so we almost end up having dinner together.
We are exhausted from the day and go to bed early.
