Torrential Rain, Stones & Stingrays
Today another trip was planned, one we had been looking forward to for a long time. And as it should happen - the day started again with heavy torrential rain, just like a week...

Today was our last 'real' vacation day in La Digue, before we take the ferry to Mahé tomorrow and our return flight is on Tuesday. Therefore, our plan was to have another lovely beach day.⛱️ Before heading to the beaches that were still on our list, we had another mission to complete: We bought cat food at the supermarket and drove to a spot where we had previously seen many street cats.🐈 We were greeted with a lot of 'meowing,' and it only got quieter after a few bags of food were devoured.🥹
During our entire trip to the Seychelles, we frequently encountered street animals, which made us incredibly sad. To do something good on our honeymoon, we decided to donate money to the organization 'networkforanimals,' which is currently operating a sterilization center here.🤍
Back to today: Although the day started sunny, we were surprised by a rain shower on the hilly bike ride to the beach that left us soaking wet. At that point, we still didn’t know how much rain we could expect today.☔ Optimistically, we began the 'short' and, according to reviews, 'easy' hike to the most beautiful of the three bays we wanted to visit today. Spoiler: it was neither short nor easy, but we’re used to that.🥾 The recurring rain made it even more challenging, turning the ground slippery and muddy. For a short time, our spirits dipped (after all, we really wanted some sunshine today☀️). And you can imagine there’s nothing nicer than climbing through mud in the rain on your last vacation day (Janike had to shed a few tears because she wasn't wet enough yet).🥲
Since it kept raining, it was too risky to make ourselves comfortable at the beach.🫣 So we walked along the water and briefly jumped into the stormy waves before we had to take shelter at a beach bar because the rain was too heavy (everything got wet anyway😂). Although the weather didn’t show its best side today, we were impressed by the beautiful beaches (which would have been even more stunning with sunshine)🥹.
After returning from the less successful beach day, we jumped in the pool one last time. Then Yannick went out to get take-away dinner. We enjoyed this at the hotel beach - with a view of the sunset over the sea (and without rain!).🌅 A tiring and emotional day thus ended beautifully after all.🥰 Yannick couldn’t resist trying out the big swing by the palm tree before our departure tomorrow.😉
Fun fact: No one here locks their bicycles.🚲 You don’t even get a lock from the rental. But where would you go with a stolen bike on this small island?😂 For us, it was still strange to leave the bikes 'just like that.'🫣
