Return Journey Marathon✈️🚄
We used the 6-hour layover in Addis Ababa for dinner, sleeping (it was very uncomfortable on the hard plastic chairs), and freshening up.🪥 At 00:15, the flight to Rome took off....

Most importantly: We made it back to Stuttgart safely yesterday.💪🏻 In the evening, we had a delicious vegetable soup, and today a big shopping trip, leaving our apartment filled with full drying racks.😂
To wrap up our Seychelles blog, we would like to draw a conclusion, share our highlights with you, and reveal a story or two that you may not have heard before.🤭
Let’s start with our conclusion regarding the Seychelles trip:
For us, it was the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Dreamy beaches with turquoise water, palm trees, and fine sand - that’s how one envisions the Seychelles (and that’s how it really was🏝️). But there’s so much more: We were surprised by the lush greenery and hilly forests offering numerous hiking options. Although it’s more suited for adventurous souls who don’t mind climbing and 'wild' paths.🥾 In terms of accommodation, there’s a stark contrast: wealthy tourists choose the comfortable route and stay in luxury hotels. For 2000 Euros a night, one doesn't even have to leave their resort as everything is provided there.🏩 If you want to experience authentic island life, then a vacation rental is a better option. Thus, the mix of hotels & AirBnBs was just right for our stay.💪🏻
Our 3 highlights from the honeymoon:
- Excursion to Curieuse Island with the giant tortoises🐢
- Beautiful cove with a beach bar that we hiked to (and snorkeling there)🤿
- Dancing to the band’s music at night in the hotel (we had to muster some courage, but it was a blast💃🏻
What surprised us:
- It rained more than we expected (otherwise the islands wouldn’t be so green)🌧️
- There are no typical (inner-city) touristy areas
- After sunset, there’s hardly anything happening outside and everyone is indoors (sometimes there aren’t even streetlights😂)
- There are no promenades like those found in Europe😆
- There are Germans tourists everywhere, making it feel like we were in Mallorca🫣
- Locals who find the bus too boring simply ride in the back of small trucks 🚗
Unique animals we saw:
- Many flying foxes (like huge bats)
- Rays
- 1 octopus🐙
- 1000 colorful fish🐠
- Giant centipede
- Giant tortoises🐢
- Large palm spiders🕷️
- Geckos🦎
We unfortunately did not encounter sea turtles, whales, dolphins, or sharks, but one must have damn luck (or bad luck😅) for that...🦈
Something to chuckle about:
Our wildest accommodation (the one without windows and a string as a key) nonetheless provided us with funny and beautiful moments that we haven’t shared yet: Out of the 5 rooms, 3 were occupied by Germans. One of them works as a tram driver in Stuttgart with the SSB. How small the world is.😅 One evening, Janike was so craving pasta that she quickly bought some and asked at the accommodation if she could have the pasta for dinner. And lo and behold: It worked!🥳 While the other guests were enjoying the buffet, we were served a bowl of pasta, it was legendary.😍
Traumas we brought back from the trip:
- The longfin batfish that followed us while snorkeling (Janike still has nightmares about it)🤿
- Every single bus ride (we’re still grateful to have survived them all)🚌
- Several giant cockroaches that visited us at the accommodation🪳
- The high waves that splashed into the kayak during our kayak tour; while Janike panicked about the kayak sinking, Yannick diligently scooped out water🌊
- The thousands of mosquitoes that followed us day and night 🦟
- The constant fear of losing our wedding rings (sand, stones & sea are not ideal for that)💍
In conclusion, we can only say: Even if not everything went according to plan, we created unforgettable memories🥰 Thank you for joining us on this special journey!🫶🏻
