Basque Country towards the Pyrenees

We are in the hinterland of St Jean de Luz heading towards the Pyrenees, visiting some small towns like Ascain, Ainhoa, Espelette, Cambo-Les-Bains, and Ustaritz. They are all very friendly with beautiful old typical Basque houses and many restaurants. Now, in the high season, they are of course somewhat crowded (except for Ascain). We are imagining what it would be like to settle in a country hotel in Ascain, to visit the mentioned places, but also the nearby larger towns like St Jean de Luz, Bayonne, and Biarritz. That would make for a really nice round holiday.
