The path leads through rocky-green nature with impressive rock formations. This is a very quiet side route, and we enjoy the idyllic scenery!
In a green valley, we make a stop at a farm. The grounds are vast and almost resemble the Shire from The Hobbit. Our hosts, a German-speaking Namibian couple, tell us a lot about farm life and nature. Here too, we are lucky; the entire landscape is green due to the heavy rain in recent weeks - which only happens every few years.
The next day, we set off for the national park hoping to see zebras. The area is considered technically challenging! The Olive Trail is the shortest route. The 11 km sound quite manageable, and the estimates for the duration vary between 3 and 4.5 hours.
It will be quite challenging, but the nature is incredibly beautiful. 😍 We ascend the high plateau and see blooming meadows between the rocky slopes everywhere. The further route then leads for a good 2 hours down a long canyon over rubble and large stones! We are relieved when we finally make it.
We unexpectedly get the absolute highlight just before the end of our hike in the late afternoon: Suddenly, we see some mountain zebras trotting across the green valley past us - like out of nowhere, simply magical 🤩
Along the way, we repeatedly notice large nests in trees or on power poles. They are the homes of the fascinating sociable weavers! These small birds can be found in sub-Saharan Africa and are true master builders.🤩 The males skillfully and diligently construct nests and attempt to impress females during courtship in this way.
