A perfect ending in the Algarve

Our last day in the Algarve couldn't have been more beautiful. We started the day with a visit to the impressive Praia de Alvor and the nature reserve, where we walked along the Passadiços de Alvor.

The wooden walkways took us through a stunning landscape of dunes and salt marshes – a paradise for nature lovers and, of course, for photographers.

For lunch, we stopped at the Yacht Club Alvor, where we enjoyed the view of the harbor and the tasty snacks alike.

Refreshed, we then strolled through the charming old town of Alvor. The narrow streets, the typical white and tiled houses, and the Igreja Matriz de Alvor, which towers over the old town.

The Igreja Matriz de Alvor, also known as the Church of the Divine Redeemer, is a true gem and a highlight in the old town of Alvor.

It dates back to the 16th century and combines various architectural styles, including elements of Gothic and Manueline – a typical Portuguese style characterized by richly decorated details.

Especially impressive are the ornate azulejos (tiles) that adorn the interior walls. These blue-and-white tiles tell religious stories and give the interior a special touch. They reflect the light in a beautiful way and inevitably draw the gaze of visitors.

Also noteworthy is the Manueline main portal of the church, which is adorned with intricate stonework and marine symbols – a nod to Portugal's glorious age of discoveries. Inside, the richly decorated altar stands out, marked by golden embellishments and religious figures.

The Igreja Matriz de Alvor is not just a place of worship, but also a place where art and history merge. It invites one to pause for a moment and enjoy the calm, spiritual atmosphere.

On our way back, we made a stop at the famous rocks of Três Irmãos. The sight of the imposing rock formations and the glittering waves was the perfect ending to our day by the sea.

On the way back, we also made a brief stop in Portimão. At the Museu de Portimão, we briefly immersed ourselves in the history of the fishing industry. We found the old baskets particularly fascinating, which were used to transport fish directly from the boats to the factories – a fascinating insight into the region's traditional past.

Also notable was the view over the harbor up to Feragudo. After that, we wandered along the promenade by the harbor. The combination of the tall, majestic palm trees and the artistic stone sculptures placed along the way gave the stroll a particularly unique atmosphere. A truly beautiful place to enjoy the maritime flair of Portimão.

Back at the accommodation, it was time to pack our bags. But we took a detour to the beach, hoping in vain for one last sunset. Unfortunately, we were disappointed, but the wonderful waves made up for it.

We ended the evening relaxed at Bellavita, a charming Italian restaurant. The food was excellent. I enjoyed a wonderfully tender Vitello Tonnato, followed by perfectly prepared Spaghetti Carbonara.

My husband chose a crispy bruschetta as an appetizer and then a juicy beef fillet accompanied by crunchy fresh green asparagus. With a nice wine – and the evening was absolutely successful. The service was friendly, the atmosphere cozy, and it was the perfect ending and a final moment of enjoyment before we head home tomorrow.

The Algarve deeply impressed us with its diversity and beauty, and we take home many unforgettable impressions.
