Day 11. Kyoto last day..

So dear readers, we continued today and seized the opportunity to check off a few items on our Kyoto bucket list in 38 degrees. East of Gion lies Kuomizu with beautiful shrines, temples, and pagodas that we definitely wanted to see. We set off using the city buses that stopped at the bus stop with such frequency that we hardly had to wait at all. Amazing! Arriving at Juichiju Sekito, we had to swim through the crowd of tourists for the first few meters... but it quickly condensed to the essential parts and the people dispersed just as fast. Remaining were the influencers in their rented kimonos staging photo shoots... shaking our heads yet again, just like us. We then continued to the Hōkan-Ji Temple, which also had an impressive pagoda to offer. The Kodaiji Temple was already waiting for us a short distance away. Unfortunately, we noticed here that the area is a large construction site... and judging by the work being done, it will likely take a long time to complete. The guidebook from 2021 had already mentioned this. After a short refreshment break at the Family Mart, we also visited the last temple complex of Chion-in.. Remarkably, the main hall was completed in 1621 - so it has already been around for 400 years.. As an additional highlight, the temple complex is also home to one of the largest temple bells in Japan... from 1612 with 70 tons.. Afterwards, we returned to the hotel to lay in the onsen to recover from the hot day. A dinner at Saizeriya completed the evening.
