Pisa 2026 - Day 5

Thursday / Giovedi, July 2, 2026 – Day 5

Wonderful sleep until 9 with the window open and cool temperatures, although the tree climbers are already making noise and are getting the battered trees from the last storm back to safety, and the cicadas, of course, are already awake. Coffee and cookies and reading a book in front of the house with a view of Pisa.

For the guests who have only booked a room, Giulio serves breakfast in a white apron and chef's hat. Not with us, thankfully.

PSA is again launching flights at 5 minute intervals, this time with a greeting round over the city and to us. And it also takes on some domestic flights from the south. A small snack in between and back to reading the Stefan Maiwald book: “The Italian Principle: This is How Happiness Works!”

That’s happiness today, that’s how vacations should be. At 3 we drive to Pontedera and visit the Vespa Museum. Somewhat disappointing, I remembered it to be more impressive and exciting. Therefore, I buy up all the Panini stickers from a traffic/toy nerd around the corner, who is still completely perplexed.

The next destination is the Leaning Bell Tower of the Church of San Michele degli Scalzi, because that one is also crooked! Lisa finds us a place and guides us to the Espresso Bar Chalet Caffetteria Bistrot on the Arno waterfront: a cool trendy spot (yet still recommended) with fantastic, calorie-rich cake.

We also change the restaurant for dinner, because on the drive through the avenues to Pontedera we discover The Butcher. Awesome location and clearly a gathering place for Italians. We manage to snag a spot outside and enjoy the food and the atmosphere. This is what vacation should be like. A relaxed day comes to an end. Austria loses the World Cup round of 16 against Spain, but other than that, everything is good.
