Grado - the 2nd

So Lisa and I are on a beach holiday in beautiful Grado with Bettina and Christian and their daughter Ella.

Sunday, 6.6.2010

7.00 Lisa wakes up on time and we both get up right away. We let Mom sleep a little longer, she still has to recover from her role as maid of honor (Eva and Günther - Harkamp, 4.6.2010)...

We're going to have a quiet drink of cocoa and read the newspaper, because our departure date has been postponed until Monday: Dad still has to go to the office. But we still have a little work to do today.

First, we will gather our things for packing and we will also put together a CD with Lisa's favorite songs.

Monday, 7.6.2010

Get up as usual at 5:55 am.

There is a general rush in the bathroom and then Mom says goodbye because she has to go to school. We then pack our hundred bags and suitcases and start the journey to the office at 7:30.

After checking emails and a short discussion, we really get going: 9:09 departure! Mileage: 68,989 km

Lisa's music CD is coming to an end, but we will be listening to it more often. This time there is no constant question "When will we get there?" and so it is an absolutely relaxed journey. Until a radar box in Völkermarkt startles me out of the monotony of the motorway.

Lisa takes a very short nap and when she wakes up we discuss a toilet stop and a snack and suddenly there is a sign saying "Section control - end". Oops, this could be interesting.

We make our stop at Lake Wörthersee (11:00 a.m.) and this should be the only one.

At 11:27 we cross the border and Lisa counts the tunnels in Italy and I enjoy the fact that there are no speed limits. The carabinieri often lurk on the highway - completely untypical for Italy.

Then comes the question: "When will we get there?" And the realization as we drive along the dam to Grado : "It smells of fish here. Hmm, the sea smells good."

So we will arrive on time at 1:00 p.m. The satnav takes us directly to the house at Riva San Marco 8. Mileage: 69,326 km, so 337 km from Graz to Grado, sunny, 26 °C.

But where is the entrance? Where are the K's?

Like last year, we have a shared apartment again, so we wait a few minutes until they come with the shopping for the snack. After a warm welcome, we have a beer, Ella and Lisa storm through the apartment and the caprese tastes delicious. Mom sends us a text message: "I miss you so much...!"

Because of the great weather, the first program follows: off to the beach, but this time on the other side of the city. Big waves and a happy Lisa are the result.

In the evening, there is pasta casserole with great, fresh vegetables from a small alimentari and a kilo of parmesan crust. Before preparing the pasta, Christian and I taste the first beers from the edition "Austria's winning team - 11 private brewery specialties" in keeping with the upcoming World Cup.

At half past twelve, after I'd slept for about half an hour, Lisa was standing in the middle of the room screaming because she had to go to the bathroom and couldn't find her way around the pitch-black apartment. But we managed it perfectly.
