  1. and April 4th

Yesterday passed without any major events. We drove on relatively nice roads to our meeting point with our travel partners in Khorixas. The grader driver did a great job!😁

There, we settled at the city campsite and waited for Sue and Werner, who had to take the longer and rougher route from the Atlantic to Khorixas. We took the time to have our car washed. The staff at the campsite appreciate such extra jobs, and if you're generous with the payment, you get good additional service. They brought us quality firewood. Close to the campsite, there was also a supermarket that was really well-stocked, allowing us to prepare lamb chops and game steak for dinner. In the evening, Sue and Werner arrived, and we enjoyed a cozy barbecue at the fire pit. Apparently, there was a larger party nearby with loud music, which did not bother us much since we can tune it out, but for our travel partners, it turned into a sleepless night!

Today we are heading out in the morning to visit the “petrified forest” first. We will be guided for almost an hour through the area by a well-prepared black guide. You can see smaller and larger petrified tree trunks, millions of years old. They were washed here from Central Africa through rivers and then petrified in a process that took thousands of years.

  1. and April 4th

There are noodles and salad, and almost always a campfire. You can still clearly see the bark, the growth rings, and the branch nodes. Among the petrified wood, the Welwitschia grows - a wonder of a plant:

We want to spend the night at a camp 25 km before Twyfelfontein, where the famous rock engravings, which belong to the World Heritage, are located. Late afternoon is the best time for visiting. So we relax a bit in the shade (the midday heat is quite intense

-certainly well over 30°) and we set off around 4 PM. Google says: closes at 5 PM. We arrive at 4:30 PM. Unfortunately, closed! Oh dear - the whole way back. A sundowner on the hill compensates for a lot.
