The day started at 6 AM, as we were supposed to be picked up at 7 AM.
At 7:15 AM, we started to get a bit anxious – is the driver still coming? – was it a fake safari site? At 7:20 AM, relief hit as our driver Raphael arrived, slightly stressed to pick us up.
Phew, all is well or as they say here: Hakuna Matata.
After dropping off our second suitcase at the 'Banana Farm Eco' hotel, where we would be staying on our last night, we headed towards Tarangire National Park.
The main road was okay, apart from the potholes that are suitable for small children, while off the main route the 'roads' were more like forest paths, which had been muddy three times and tidied up only twice.
Once inside the national park, we first had lunch and set up the roof of our 8-seater Toyota Land Cruiser.
In the first few meters in the open-top car, we already spotted the first animals.
Warthogs aka Pumbas, giraffes, and antelopes. With hearts in our eyes, we drove our 4WD deeper into the park along the often heavily muddy paths, where we encountered more giraffes, hundreds of zebras, elephants, and ostriches all enjoying their food just within petting distance.
After another good hour and a few power naps later, we reached our hotel, which, although a bit remote at 1,700m, was very nice. What a joy, even the water pressure and temperature were just right.
We enjoyed a 3-course dinner and after killing some mosquitoes in the room, we snuggled into our beds including the insect net, as it got a bit chilly, which obviously wasn’t due to the leaky doors and windows that made it impossible for any hairspray to keep the hair in shape due to the draft.
After a good nearly 8-hour sleep, we looked forward to Day 3.
