In the Serengeti - Day 2
Our 2nd day in the Serengeti begins with promise: The rising sun bathes the savannah in a warm light! Colorful hot air balloons rise around the campsite, floating by silently…

In the early dawn, we rev up the Land Cruiser; the Serengeti is vast and our destination in the west of the national park is still far away. The savannah rushes by, the grass grows taller, and the landscape becomes hillier. The sun climbs slowly, glowing bright red like a fireball ☄️

On the way, we encounter a herd of elephants grazing in the underbrush and come closer than ever before! The little one is really adorable 😍

Our driver Rafaki did not promise us too much: In the western part of the Serengeti, the great migration is currently in full swing 😊

The great animal migration follows the annual course of the rainy season. Over a million wildebeests, hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles roam through the Serengeti and the Masai Mara, always in search of fresh grass and water.

As soon as an animal sets off ahead, all others follow in an endless procession. The animals are currently moving further towards the Grumeti River.

When we arrive at the Grumeti River, everything is quiet. The animal masses will soon gather at the shore and finally cross the water, which is particularly dramatic due to the crocodiles already waiting!

We see several Nile crocodiles basking in the sun. Right next to them, a lot of hippos are gathered!

They appear to have no significant issues with the crocodiles, although the latter could pose a danger to their young. The hippos have a strict hierarchy in their herd. The best resting spots are naturally in high demand...
Our long ride is coming to an end soon! We enjoy the last impressions in the far west of the Serengeti before we arrive at the western gate of the national park...

Now in Swahili: Karibu Tena! Goodbye!

Next, we will drive in several stages around Lake Victoria across the border to Uganda!
