Sadly for the last time, but once again visiting the water buffalo, we got up promptly at sunrise from our tent beds.
Today, unfortunately, we had to head back from the national parks, but not by road including the 'African massage', rather by plane.
During the approximately one-hour flight there, we could observe a little lion resisting, whom the mother was almost desperately trying to pull off the road. But he kept crawling back down to the street - just like kids do.
Upon arrival at the airport, we said goodbye to Raphi, who had given us truly wonderful days, and then our luggage and we checked in African-style = Spartan.
The check-in counter was outdoors, next to it a scale reminiscent of the ones in pedestrian zones where you have to drop in 50 cents, and the metal detector of security, which was more dusty than the rocking horses from grandma's attic.
During the one-hour wait, Tanja only had one task; to call Roli when our flight was announced. Roli was busy writing these wonderful lines.
When the moment arrived, we marched together with the other passengers across the runway, which would get laughed at by each of our fields - after plowing, of course - and Roli noticed that something was off.
We probably would've been in Djibouti or something, as it was the wrong plane. So we both turned back to the terminal alone and waited for our correct flight.
Our flight turned out to be really great as we could see all the national parks we visited over the past 5 days from above - though we didn't spot any animals.
At the domestic airport in Arusha, Tanja had her next shining moment. While Roli was in the restroom, Tanja wanted to check the boarding passes for the onward flight to Zanzibar, which the other passengers who had the same plan received. So either Tanja wanted to flee ahead of Roli or get rid of him.
It's really a pity that we couldn't stay in this lovely place longer. The room wasn’t particularly exciting, but at €13 for 2 people including breakfast, it was quite acceptable. The true treasure was the 17-hectare farm and everything around it, which we had the chance to get to know during a guided tour in the afternoon.
Cows, goats, and chickens for milk, meat, and eggs, and above all for the in-house biogas plant. Animal waste is collected in a container, and bacteria gasify it, allowing the resulting gas to be used for cooking and heating water, among other things. The centerpiece of the farm is the banana plantation with 16 different banana varieties for cooking, eating, and frying.
You felt upon arrival that behind the gate is a little world of its own, living Hakuna Matata and especially polle polle (=slow/relaxed) like hardly anywhere else.
Before dinner, we exchanged our safari experiences with Sasha, a German guest, and two Italians. Fortunately, there was plenty to chat about, because dinner was served under the motto 'polle polle'. First, the soup was forgotten at our table, then the dessert, and oh yes, we didn't get a drink at all.
It sounds worse than it was, because maybe us Europeans should yearn a little less for perfection and learn that life doesn't always have to be structured down to the last second.
