After repacking our suitcases several times until late in the evening and unpacking some items again, our journey began early in the morning at 0:30 without any sleep.
The way to St. Valentin for the train was our first mini-safari. We could observe deer and rabbits that were still awake.
The route to Vienna involved two transfers, with a 40-minute wait in icy cold while waiting for the connecting train further heightening our anticipation for the warm Africa.
After a hot tea at the airport, we had a surprise at security check. Our pre-mixed breakfast muesli had to either stay there or be consumed immediately. And since no one was likely to take away our breakfast, we devoured it standing up in front of all the other waiting passengers.
The second security check went smoothly, and then we headed first from Vienna to Zurich - Yay, Tanja was in
Switzerland for the first time.
With 'Edelweiss' airline, we continued over the snow-white mountains of Switzerland to
Tanzania - Kilimanjaro.
Despite the sleep we needed to catch up on, we took the time to enjoy the views of the mountains, lakes, islands, and the sea, as well as the delicious food on board.
Upon exiting the plane, we were finally greeted by the long-awaited warm air - wonderful.
We had to quickly go through the visa check and our suitcases were already waiting for us.
In front of Kilimanjaro airport was the first challenge - find your driver among 100 people holding signs. Searched, found, and we were already taken to our first accommodation at 'Safi House'. We received a very warm welcome and quickly learned our first words in Swahili:
Jambo - Hello
Asante - Thank you
Karibu - Welcome
Hakuna Matata - There are no problems
Since it was already after 20:00, we packed our things for the next day and treated ourselves to an experience shower - very little to no pressure, but cold - before we fell tired into bed.
