The hopeful view in the morning through the curtains disappointed us. Gray upon gray with a chance of rain.
Well, at least if the weather report happened to be accurate for a change, it would be pouring rain all day.
So Plan B: Shopping day.
Strengthened by breakfast, we drove to the capital Victoria, which was 20 minutes away. Our destination was the Victoria Market. The plan was quite aimless, and we stomped through the well-populated streets of the city until we honestly stumbled upon the large market hall.
The aroma of fresh fruits, vegetables, and a noise level similar to that of a fan area in a football stadium greeted us.
The vibrant colors of the exotic fruit and vegetable selection initially overwhelmed us. We would have liked to try everything right away.
A fresh drinking coconut was just right as an appetizer, before we stocked up on mangoes, avocado, a banana-coconut jam, and vanilla pods.
The lady at the mangosteen stall handed a packed plastic bag to Roli and said that his wife would carry something in her belly for 9 months, so he must carry everything else for her.
Said and done. Pack mule Roli then dragged the haul home with his last strength, where the mangoes were immediately tasted by the pool.
Despite the rain starting again, Tanja still swam her laps in the pool.
When in the late afternoon the sun peeked through a bit, we quickly packed our snorkeling gear and headed to the beach, because a day without the sea would be a lost day.
The visibility was somewhat obscured, but then a dull scream and waving wildly underwater caught Roli's attention. Tanja had spotted a small white tip reef shark, leisurely cruising for dinner.
Roli had to blink twice to believe his eyes. Quickly activating the camera, we followed the shark, which moved majestically through the water. Roli felt a bit uneasy when the little biter came a bit closer, but for his dinner, Roli was a bite too big.
He likely realized that Roli's dinnertime was also not far off and probably preferred not to engage in a fight.
Deeply engrossed in the underwater world, we only noticed the storm brewing above us far too late. High waves and a heavy downpour hit us as we made swift fin movements to reach the beach and ran to the car.
Soaked, we drove back to the accommodation in bikinis and swim trunks, with snorkel masks and fins in hand.
With such weather, we didn't step out the door again, so we had takeaway pizza and wraps for dinner, which we enjoyed on our hotel terrace overlooking the rainy Beau Vallon.
