Today’s departure at 8 am to the Sossusvlei (dune landscape - UNESCO World Heritage Site)
We somehow ended up being the last ones still at the camp. When is the rest getting up? 🤔🥱
Upon arrival, our first stop was at Dune 45. It was already really tall, we thought, and in the cool morning it was still easy to climb 🧗♀️
Until we faced 'Big Daddy' in front of us (about 380m). And we are really supposed to climb that!?
After about 2/3 of the climb, our strength started to flag 🫠, and it had also gotten quite warm by now 🥵 (around 30 °C). So, the family council decided to descend into the Deadvlei, except for Leonidas, who absolutely wanted to reach the summit. He did it, incredible 👏
Through the dead forest, we made our way back to the shuttle parking lot, where our driver took us back to our car. The last meters into the Sossusvlei need to be traversed on quite sandy paths. So, we preferred to use the shuttle bus. The rides were almost comparable to a roller coaster 🎢
To finish, we drove to Sesriem Canyon and rejoiced in the late afternoon as we began our journey back to our dream lodge after an exciting, hot, and sandy day.
And as if we hadn’t already experienced countless highlights today, a herd of rhinos 🦏 was at our waterhole as we walked to dinner. Simply priceless, what a wonderful day 🤩
