Karavostassi Beach

Yes, I took some days off as we didn't leave the place, and besides some walks, not much exciting happened.

We also spent the turn of the year literally in bed but heard the fireworks. 15 minutes of rocket launching and then it was quiet... spooky... when you see the pictures from Berlin, it was really relaxed here in Crete.

We wish all readers of this blog and the Instagram and YouTube community a healthy and happy 2025. Enjoy every minute and open yourselves to other fellow campers and people... you meet some really nice wonderful folks.

We drove about 40 km further and arrived at Karavostassi Beach, located southeast of Agios Nikolaos. It’s a really nice quiet and currently lonely beach, where locals greet you and you feel welcomed. A breathtaking view including an apartment building illuminated at night. If you book there, you have a stunning view over the bay... AND... there are fishing spots. Last night we tried fishing again... the result... the fish laughed at us and we had to cook something else...

Today during the day, the sun was supposed to shine so that we could recharge some power... but somehow the weather apps here for Crete are not the best... a brief ray of sunshine, the input surges to 210 only to quickly drop back down to 70. It’s tough going for the little squirrel...

Hopefully tonight the sky won't be too cloudy, as there are supposed to be many shooting stars visible... we will keep our eyes open and see. I will report back.

From here, we can take some measured hikes... if... yes, if Freddy's big toe wouldn't be acting up so much... there is again an inflammation in the foot/toe due to rheumatism... not good, so today there's a running ban, and the hike isn't going anywhere...

There’s the smell of oat bread in the car... today I baked again... At Nonna Aurelia, it really works well... this time the bread was made in the large loaf pan, and the baked bread looks great.... we will test it tonight with chicken soup...

Yes, you won't believe it, we are still at the same beach as a week ago. We enjoy the sun, the water, and the surroundings, go for walks, ride bicycles, and shop at the supermarket for our daily needs... so not much has happened.

It’s a dream how the sun shines on the mountain range in the evening and peeks over the mountains in the morning... that tells us... we did everything right. However, tomorrow we will move on and settle at a new camping spot... it's time for that... otherwise, the 2 months will quickly come to an end.

One thing we can definitely say as an interim conclusion from Crete... it’s amazing and super beautiful... we will likely return to Crete next winter... the people are very warm and friendly, we have great conversations and learn a lot about the nature here... really wonderful.... thank you, Crete
