Finally away from tourism

已发表: 11.08.2019

The last few days in Uluwatu were actually quite relaxed. I slept in, chatted with people from the hostel, and explored the beautiful beaches of the southern peninsula.

I really think I could watch a sunset on the beach every evening of my life and it would never get boring :)

I also took advantage of the opportunity and took surf lessons because Uluwatu is famous for its surf beaches, but the conditions weren't good and I didn't get along with the surf instructor, so it wasn't really a success, but I'll keep trying!

Today around noon, I made my way to my project in the north. The 3-hour scooter ride with the 2 heavy backpacks was tiring, but it was definitely the most beautiful road I've ever driven. I decided not to drive along the coast, but the road that goes straight through the island and in the interior, it's almost all jungle. Such a diverse route! You pass by volcanoes, through the wildest jungle, on roads that we wouldn't even call roads in Austria,... just wonderful. Apparently, there aren't many tourists in the area because when I drove through a small village, I was looked at like an alien. The children and teenagers playing volleyball on the side of the road even shouted something at me and asked me to stop, but I didn't know if they were happy to see a tourist or the opposite... and since the contents of my small backpack are worth as much as the locals here earn in 1 year, I didn't want to find out, although I'm sure they're all nice people here. But honestly, I'm really glad to be away from the 'touristy' side of Bali for once and to really see what the lives of the locals here in the north are like.

The project site looks very promising, a little paradise with a few self-built wooden huts on a lonely beach and plenty of space where people can come together and talk. I could get used to that :)

Tomorrow we will have an introduction, and then it's time to start working!

I'll keep you posted
