We arrived at Denpasar airport at 0:10 local time. From there, we took a taxi to Kuta, where we rented a room for two nights. It was 1:30 AM by the time we checked in and we were starving. So we went out again to look for food. It wasn't easy to find something in the middle of the night. There were only street stalls and they all had leftovers from the day, which was not good for us with celiac disease. Luckily, we met an Australian who spoke fluent Indonesian and ordered us plain rice with chicken. It wasn't the best meal, but when you're a hungry celiac, you don't have a choice.
The next morning, we had a good sleep and had fruits and eggs for breakfast. Then we went shopping and to the beach. We bought some great pictures. Padi indulged in his passion for bargaining again. It's 28 degrees Celsius and 100% humidity, warm but more comfortable than in Darwin. After lunch (Nasi Goreng), we went back to the beach, this time without any valuables. Padi had negotiated surf lessons for us. We paid €11 for a 2-hour surf course. Each of us got a wetsuit and a private instructor. After a short practice on the beach, we went into the water. It went surprisingly well and was a lot of fun. Padi especially did great, he stood on almost every wave up to 2.5 meters. We ended our surf lessons after 1.5 hours, we were exhausted from paddling so much.
After freshening up, we went out to eat again. Then we celebrated our surfing success in a cocktail bar.
Currently, Bali is very quiet. Tourists are staying away due to the active volcano. We are enjoying our time and have already had a glimpse of the volcano.
