Day 2: Kuala Lumpur

Pubblicato: 12.02.2020

After the exhausting stay in Vietnam, I arrived in Malaysia on time but unfortunately, my driver did not. It turned out that the booking was canceled even though the payment was made in advance. So, I tried the Grab app for the first time. And not for the last time, the driver arrived quickly and was also very affordable.

Once I arrived at the hostel, I quickly went to the rooftop pool and then went to bed.

Today, I woke up early, at 5 AM German time. Considering the 7-hour time difference, it was noon here. Around noon, I went to the city center by Grab. As the landmark of Kuala Lumpur, I first visited the Petronas Twin Towers. There, I enjoyed the view and the air-conditioned, oversized shopping mall, as well as the adjacent garden at the base of the two towers.

In the early evening, I went in search of the Helipad Bar. As the name suggests, it is a bar on a decommissioned helipad high above the city. The entrance fee of 10 euros, including a drink, was well worth the spectacle. It offered a 360-degree view of the city and an interesting transition between daylight and the many lights that illuminate the night. This was accompanied by a blood-red sunset.

Afterwards, I went for my first proper meal of the day. Following a secret tip, I walked a short distance to the Tapak Urban Street Dining. There were about 30 food trucks gathered around a square with many small tables and chairs. After having a burger, a taco, and two mango shakes, my stomach was full and I was ready to go home. As usual, I used Grab for transportation. With the scooter option, you pay hardly more than one euro, but I opted for the car, which is very affordable at just under two euros.

Now the evening is coming to an end, and I will soon go to bed. Tomorrow, I plan to wake up early and visit the Batu Caves, and then possibly go to Chinatown, the 3D Museum, or go bouldering. I also plan to decide on my next travel destination, which will be Tanah Rata, in the heart of Malaysia, known primarily for its tea plantations.
