On 18.01.23 we took the ferry from Langkawi to Koh Lipe, after only 90 minutes we arrived in Thailand 🎉 the ferry stopped just off the beach and we could hardly believe our eyes: the water was incredibly clear and turquoise-blue, with an incredibly beautiful landscape and vegetation. Then two taxi boats came to bring us passengers from the ferry to the shore. We left the big backpacks on board and only took the hand luggage with us. So we switched to the taxi boat and when everyone had taken their seats, we were taken to the shore. When we arrived at the beach, the immigration point was right in front of us. We got in line. When it was our turn, our passports were checked, our fingerprints were scanned, and they asked us when we would leave (we had another onward ticket for safety). Everything was perfect, by now our backpacks were also on the beach. We shouldered our luggage and walked about 7 minutes to our hotel: the A-Plus-Hotel. We stayed in the double bed in the mixed dorm with 8 beds. The mattress was very hard. We were glad that the rooms were never fully occupied. There was a shared bathroom with toilets and showers on each floor, which was relatively clean.
We were on a side street to the well-known "Walking Street". Everything happens here during the day and especially in the evening. Here you can find restaurants, bars, cannabis shops, diving schools, massage parlors, pharmacies, supermarkets, and more. You can also get tattoos or have braids done. We were on the island during the high season, there was a lot going on, sometimes we were pushed through the walking street.
The traffic through the sometimes narrow and tight streets was also a bit annoying. There are many scooters on the road, as well as the taxis on Koh Lipe: a scooter with a bench attached to the side to transport guests and their luggage. Such a vehicle gladly occupies the entire road.
But the beaches are a dream! The only noise was sometimes made by the arriving longtail boats or excursion boats, otherwise it was relatively quiet. We liked Sunset Beach the most (we also found it to be the calmest beach overall), followed by Sunrise Beach and Pattaya Beach. A bit hidden, but easily accessible from Pattaya Beach is Sanom Beach (unfortunately there were a lot of mosquitoes here).
Luckily, we found a nice, relatively quiet spot where we had breakfast every morning. Once I treated myself to a great Thai massage for 350 baht.
Koh Lipe is the southernmost island of Thailand, small but nice, with fantastic beaches. The prices are relatively high, but we lacked nothing. If we come back again, we would prefer to come during the low season. It is and remains a fantastic panorama that I always love to remember!
On 25.01. we took the ferry (which turned out to be a speedboat 😅) and continued to the island of Koh Lanta.
