We have never been ready for our trip so early. Our tuktuk picked us up at 5:30 a.m. Before 6 a.m. we were at the landmark of Cambodia (which is also depicted on the country's flag) - the mighty Angkor Wat temple was surrounded by many tourists who, like us, wanted to see the sunrise at this holy place. Getting up early was definitely worth it. The temple showed its most magical side with the first rays of sons.
After sunrise we drove straight to Wat Prom which most people know from the movie Tomb Raider. With this film, not only Angelina Jolie made her breakthrough, but also Cambodia as a travel destination. Since then, around 2 million tourists visit the temples of Angkor every year.
Because we were there even before the temple opened, we had the place almost to ourselves. It is so impressive to see how the jungle reclaims its place and the trees grow on the runias. Ta Prom is actually the only temple complex where trees are not removed. After this highlight, we discovered another 4 temples. After so many impressions we got tired and were back at the hotel at 12 p.m. We used the afternoon to relax at the pool and pack.
In the evening we went to the best vegetarian restaurant in the city (the only restaurant we ate in Siem Reap 😆) and took a short detour to the well-known and very touristy pub street.
