October 22-24, 2021: Idstein
F. The nights are already getting really cold outside, but thanks to good insulation and heaters, it's still comfortable. Actually, we were supposed to be in the south of France by now, where it's a bit warmer, but we left Hannover later than planned. Theoretically, we could drive straight to France, but there is a highlight on the way that we didn't want to miss. Namely, a meeting with Nils and Ramona, who did a voluntary social year with us in Australia. So on Friday afternoon, we made our way past Frankfurt am Main to the picturesque town of Idstein, with just a few traffic jams. Ramona had a bit more trouble with traffic coming from the south and arrived shortly after us. In the early evening, we had a private city tour. The city has a beautiful old town center with many half-timbered houses and quirky little shops.
On Saturday, we went hiking on the Feldberg (no, we're not referring to the Feldberg in the Black Forest) and indulged in old memories and took some new souvenir photos.
In the evening, the traditional game "Settlers of Catan" was a must. As often before, the winner of the evening was the favorite from the north and does not need to be announced here. Besides, the victory was very close this time.
After a hearty breakfast and a short hike on Nils' favorite mountain right outside the front door, we continued south on Sunday. We stayed in Gernsheim directly on the Rhine and were lulled to sleep by the quiet purring of passing barges.
Day 9 - Total Tour 942 km
