Wasaga Beach and Parry Sound

Pubblicato: 17.06.2017

We arrived just in time at Wasaga Beach to experience the most beautiful sunset we have ever seen. The colors were impressive and almost unreal, and the sunset lasted a long time, allowing us to enjoy it and admire the play of colors. Sunsets here are generally very beautiful and intense. After this amazing experience, we slept in our van again in a Walmart parking lot in Wasaga Beach.

The next morning, we visited the beach in daylight. Overall, it is a beautiful beach, although one section is very commercialized. There are fast food restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops lined up next to each other, making it feel like the big beaches in the USA or Southern Europe. We walked along the beach and soaked up the sun until noon. The water of Georgian Bay (part of Lake Huron) was too cold for swimming. Then, we continued driving towards Parry Sound. Along the way, we noticed a change in landscape: the ground became more rocky and rugged.

Upon arriving in Parry Sound, we parked overnight at another Walmart parking lot (yes, Walmart is our friend here ;D). The next day, we took a three-hour boat tour in the Georgian Bay and its islands and channels, starting from Parry Sound. Parry Sound is part of the Georgian Bay, which is the largest freshwater archipelago in the world with over 30,000 islands. An island is considered to be any landmass larger than one acre (approximately 4,050 square meters). The boat tour was definitely worth it as we got to admire the stunning landscape and see a lot. The islands are mostly composed of smooth rocks and cliffs, but they are also green. There are many summer and vacation homes of various sizes on the islands. You can rent or lease land on an island or even buy an entire island, which can cost millions. After the boat tour, we continued driving to Sault Ste. Marie to spend the night in another Walmart parking lot. From here, our adventures towards the west began.
