A little Hué

We were awakened at 6 o'clock by the sound of metal, barking dogs, and children screaming. Although we were able to doze off again, it was not restful. Nina has been struggling with severe headaches since yesterday and feels a bit weak. The longing for relaxation and tranquility is growing stronger.

When Ronja entered the bathroom this morning, it happened again. "Ninaaaaa! Ninaaaa! Come here!!" On the sink was our little bottle of coconut oil, unfortunately completely occupied by ants. Only when we pushed them into the sink did we realize how many ants there really were. Oh god! What choice did we have? We flushed them away.

After Ronja took a shower, we got ready and drove to a café in the city with the Grabe. As soon as we received the menu, the server told us that today, due to the Tet holiday, we have to pay an extra 20%. Okay.. Nina tried to order a modified sandwich (replacing the egg with avocado), but she failed. The waitress refused to accommodate any special requests, looked at us with a glance, and replied with a tone that conveyed the following: "How dare you ask for that?!" Ronja's ordered coffee was a joke, the cup contained maybe 3 sips. Our avocado toast with egg tasted good until Ronja found a familiar creature, an ant, in her egg. We tried to ignore the incident and ate obediently.

Afterwards, we walked along the Perfume River and saw many locals with their families who had dressed up because of Tet and were taking photos. We thought about how we can continue tomorrow and went to the train station to ask for tickets directly there. It is possible to take the train to a city before Hoi An (our destination tomorrow), but from there we still have to find a way to get further. We ordered some coffee with almond milk in a café and received a creation with strange gooey pieces - no idea what that was, probably pure sugar. The drink was definitely very sweet. We researched alternatives to the train on the internet and booked bus tickets. Hopefully it worked out.

We walked along the river a bit in the drizzle, which once again reminded us of the German weather, and let ourselves drift. We politely declined persistent ladies who wanted to take us on a boat. We crossed the famous Hué Bridge and went to another café. Ronja got a latte macchiato, Nina made the "mistake" and ordered the creation from an hour ago.. oops. We planned our onward journey a bit and went to a last restaurant for today. It seems that nothing is really open and we are currently lacking any motivation or enthusiasm for culture.

Today we talked about our stay in Vietnam and came to the conclusion that we like the nature with the mountains and rice fields in the north, but our enthusiasm lies more with Thailand. This is probably because here we have the feeling that everything is hectic, loud, restless, and the air is completely polluted and unrefreshing. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to encountering Hoi An tomorrow, of which we have heard and read many positive things.

We ended the day in bed watching a series and ordered pizza. We named ourselves Kitkat Chunky Junkies. Ronja took care of Nina's neck with her learned skills and was able to provide relief. It's getting late again and we're going to close our eyes now. Before we pay for the accommodation tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock, we need to go to an ATM.

"Is there fireworks here every day or what?" - "Blasting remains"

We already notice that in a few days it will be quite a change when we no longer travel together.. we are still ignoring that.

Have a nice Sunday!

Ronja & Nina
