The Banff National Park

Publié: 14.05.2018

Today I took it easy and explored the Banff National Park. I didn't leave for Lake Minnewanka until around noon and had lunch there by the lake. I have to say that I liked Jasper National Park much better. This is due to the variety of animals I encountered there and the fewer number of people. Banff National Park is much busier. Every parking lot feels packed with cars and there are a lot of people on the hiking trails. Unfortunately, some of them are rude and annoying. Today, I chose a quiet spot by this huge lake to eat alone and enjoy the view. After about twenty minutes, four students came by and decided to sit less than three meters away from me. Even though the lake was huge and there were plenty of seating options, they had to sit right in front of me. Well, I tolerated it for a while and then left quite annoyed. Especially since one of them would scream hysterically whenever a small squirrel approached her. This was just one example of how annoying tourists and people can be. As beautiful as nature is, it's very disruptive. After that, I drove to Johnston Canyon and hiked the 1.1-kilometer trail up to the waterfall. The path was quite narrow and it was crowded. Tomorrow, I have one more day in Banff and I've pre-purchased a ride on the Banff Gondola to one of the nearby hills. I'm excited to see the view and will be starting quite early again. Hopefully, there won't be as many people around then. After this day, I'll be heading to Calgary to take a break from the hustle and bustle here.
