My arrival

Nai-publish: 28.09.2016

Two months in advance, I already took care of my round trip between Hamburg and Cape Town. For over two weeks, I observed prices on comparison portals such as Skyscanner.de and momondo.de. The cheapest transfer price was a priority for me. Finally, I got the flights for a mere 640 euros. However, I had to make sure that the luggage regulations were met for the return flight, as I bought a surfboard in Muizenberg, Cape Town, which I definitely want to take home.

In short, I flew with...

• Lufthansa from Hamburg -> Frankfurt am Rhein

..and then with..

• Ethiopian Airlines from Frankfurt am Rhein via Ethiopia (Addis Ababa) to Cape Town.

Unlike a direct flight of about 12 hours, the flight duration including transfer time was about 19 hours. So plenty of time to stretch your legs!

However, the time passed faster than expected... Full with several meals and hours of sleep, I was soon able to see the impressively large townships of Cape Town from the window...

Arriving at the airport, I met my buddy. We picked up the rented VW Polo from Hertz. Since we booked via rentalcars.com from Germany, we got a discount. In total, we paid 800 euros including full insurance for 2 months. Completely fine, considering that the Polo is like new, has a good sound system with Bluetooth, and air conditioning.

Then we went to a centrally located backpacker hostel.

--> I will write tips, experiences, and feedback for all the backpackers where we will stay in a separate post and update it from time to time!
