Last year, we wanted to visit the city of Gijon, but it didn't happen. This year, we have more time and so we reserved a day for Gijon. According to Wikipedia, Gijon has around 275,000 inhabitants. More information:

I was already prepared for a traffic chaos in Gijon. Surprisingly, there was practically no traffic. However, the beach promenade was crowded with so many people. It was only then that we realized that October 12th is the Spanish National Day. That's called lack of preparation.
There may be more beautiful cities, but we liked the mix of city, beach, and crowdedness.
Almost everywhere, people were drinking Sidra. Naturally, the restaurants here are not called restaurants, but Sidreria. Sidra is a kind of 'sour cider'. To fully enjoy its flavor, it must be poured from a great height. People do it themselves.
We were probably the only ones drinking beer.
