Good-bye, Cambodia - Good Morning, Vietnam!

Two days ago, on Saturday, we said goodbye to Cambodia. The flight from Siem Reap to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) takes just a little over an hour - a short hop.

Since we flew in the morning and know the way to our hotel, where we last stayed two years ago, we take a little tour in the afternoon to some beloved spots nearby: We enjoy an original northern Vietnamese egg coffee at Little Hanoi. And we treat ourselves to a drink at dusk in The View Roof Top Bar in Bui Vien - the place where I celebrated my 65th birthday two years ago. Happy Hour: Buy two, get one free!

And then the rain comes!

Hardly have we settled above the rooftops of the city when it starts pouring down. The remnants of the typhoon that passed over the Philippines and central Vietnam in recent days, leaving behind devastating destruction and floods, still bring heavy rain to the outskirts. From our safe vantage point, we watch the water rising in the streets below us.

We actually want to go back to the hotel, but the rain doesn't stop. All we can do is roll up our pants and head down to the street. It's not a pleasure for the restaurant owners, but the visitors are having fun! We end up, which was not our intention at all, hanging out at Waikiki, enjoying top-notch Hard Rock music (!) and the view out to the street.
