Bay of Islands: 10 degrees in the morning, 20 degrees in the afternoon
Now half of our big dream has already passed. Time flies by. But we still have many beautiful destinations ahead of us.
In the morning, a cold breeze brushes against us, so we take long pants and a jacket on our trip. Starting from Waitangi, we venture through breathtaking landscapes all the way to Kerikeri. From a viewpoint, we admire the oldest stone house still standing in New Zealand. The adventure continues to the majestic Puketi forest, which is home to the giant Kauri trees that once covered large parts of the Bay of Islands. The oldest tree is between 1500 - 2000 years old and is called Tane Mahuta - Lord of the Forest. It stands at 51.2 m tall with a circumference of 13.77 m; it is simply breathtaking to walk through this forest. A stroll along the Kerikeri River to the Rainbow Falls was our last stop on the tour. Since we are accustomed to our Rhine Falls, we were still amazed at how much water cascaded down into the basin, as it is now autumn here and the summer was very dry. Another unforgettable experience comes to an end; we would have loved to stay a little longer in this fascinating area. Now it was time to say goodbye to the North Island of New Zealand, with our next destination being Christchurch on the South Island of New Zealand.
