Tauranga: overcast at 24 degrees
At six o'clock it was time to get out of bed, as we were set to embark on our unforgettable adventure at 8 o'clock, which would take us deep into the heart of New Zealand's breathtaking natural beauty. Along the way, we saw kiwi plantations, calm waters, and forests with trees we had never encountered before. Our next stop was Lake Rotoiti, where we received instructions for our kayaking trip, which was quite a challenge for us since we had never done this before. Ernst sat in the back and I was in front; as soon as we got on the lake, we received the final instruction: the one in front must paddle, and the one in the back must steer, which I found quite unfair!!!!! But I am relatively fit, and switching places was really not an option, so off we went. After about 90 minutes of paddling, we visited the glowworm cave; I saw about 20, and Ernst saw 3, which was rather modest; we had hoped for more, hence the picture above is from the internet. We then headed to the hot sulfur baths (49 degrees), where a small picnic was prepared for us. Afterwards, it was back into the kayak to paddle all the way back. We arrived at the finish as third; a bronze medal is quite sporty.
