Rapa Nui Chile: a sun and rain mix at 27 degrees
We were particularly excited about visiting Easter Island to finally see the famously described MOAI statues live. We started with the tender boat, but after 10 minutes, we experienced a mechanical failure and were just rocking back and forth on the Pacific. A second tender boat brought 2 mechanics from the MSC, and the mechanical issue was resolved. For the two mechanics, it was a huge challenge to switch to our boat. Safely arrived in Rapa Nui, we got right to it. After a short bus transfer, we enjoyed the breathtaking view of the Rano Kau crater lake and the Pacific Ocean. The island is so green; it rained at least five times that day, so rain gear or an umbrella is an absolute must. Following that, we visited Orongo, a ceremonial village where we gained insight into the history of Easter Island. We then continued to Hanga Roa and the Tahai ceremonial site. The incredible Moai sculptures were the absolute highlight of the tour. Now, it will be quiet for us, as our next stop on February 18th is Bounty Bay, but we won’t be allowed to disembark, so we will continue to Papeete, which we will reach on February 21st. Bye for now!
