Pitcairn Island: Sun and frequent rain at 24 degrees

Although we could not go on the island, we sailed around it, where the captain of the Bounty was set adrift with his companions; they were allowed to take water and food for 5 days. The Bounty was a British three-masted ship, famously known for one of the most famous mutinies in maritime history that occurred on April 28, 1789, near Tonga. The story is often referred to as 'The Mutiny on the Bounty' and has been the subject of many novels since. Currently, 47 people live on the island, descendants of the Bounty's mutineers. We were quite surprised to find that there is a school on the island, as well as a 'general' store selling everything from frozen products to vegetables and hygiene and household items of all kinds. The islanders came onboard our ship and sold their handmade crafts as well as other souvenirs. The whole scene was much too chaotic for me; it wasn't exactly my world. Nevertheless, it was indeed an impressive experience. Next landing: February 21, Papeete, French Polynesia.
