Naku'alofa on the island of Tongatapu, Tonga.
Tonga is a monarchy, consisting of 172 islands, of which only 39 are inhabited, and has a total population of 105,000. It has been independent from England since 1970. Tonga is very traditional, closely connected to its ancient culture and customs, and it exhibits a pronounced religiosity. It is a flat island surrounded by reefs.
Here, ancient crafts, original ceremonies, as well as the old preparation of medicines from nature, and cooking in traditional ovens in the ground with hot stones are practiced.
In ancient Tonga, one can experience the rituals, dances, and traditions up close. For example, 'Kava', a beverage made from the roots of the pepper tree for ceremonies, or 'Textiles' made from the bark of a special mulberry tree.
