On the way to Apia, Samoa, we crossed the date line on 01/09/26. This means that on 01/09/2026, at 03:00, the clocks were set forward by 23 hours. Therefore, we will not experience the 09th of January 2026, as it only existed for 3 hours.
Thus, we will arrive in Apia, Samoa on 01/10/2026. Samoa in the west and American Samoa in the east are neighboring islands, but since the date line runs between these islands, they will never share the same date.
Samoa (West) has 200,000 inhabitants and 80% of the island is surrounded by reefs. The island was under German and then New Zealand protection and has been independent since 1962.
The island is hilly, with many coconut palms (copra, trade in dried coconuts), agriculture, and is known for its open houses 'Fale', waterfalls, and of course, with air temperatures of 31°C and water temperatures of 27°C, the beaches are inviting.
