Virginia City in Nevada's Bergen

Today we went to the mountains. More specifically, to Virginia City, an old gold mining town. We strolled around a bit and had lunch there.

A bit of literary history in between: Mark Twain came to Virginia City as a gold miner under the name Samuel Clemens and later switched to journalism. He reported from the saloons and shared gossip stories from the town. After a dispute, he left the city in a hurry.

Our trip once again revealed a breathtaking landscape. This vastness still amazes me even after 4 1/2 weeks. Incredible. No photo can capture it 🙁. The price for this, in my opinion, is high. EVERYTHING has to be done by car; the heat and the wild animals only allow for attentive and limited outdoor activities, and natural disasters are part of life. This was also explained to us by Alessandro's colleague Alex. He said some have to deal with wildfires, while others have to manage tornadoes, hurricanes, or earthquakes. I believe one gets used to this constant uncertainty, but I truly appreciate our meticulous Swiss safety and the freedom to be anywhere at any time, without worries—even with small children. 🦩R
