Day 4: I think the dinosaurs are here!

The day started with a quite tasty breakfast. The only appetite was spoiled by the lax implementation of the corona safety measures: Where were the hand disinfection options? There was a normal buffet, but no possibility to disinfect hands before and/or after. Of course, we had our own little bottle with us. After Jörg asked about ventilation options for the breakfast room and took an active role in the passive attitude of the staff, breakfast could begin, while a nice breeze blew through the previously stuffy room.

The highlight of today was the visit to the dinosaur park, for which we even started breakfast at 7:30 am (on a Sunday), to arrive nearly on time for the park opening at 9 am before the other tourists. We rode with the non-packed, almost feather-light bikes to the dinosaur park, which was only about 1 km away, albeit uphill. The park was really interesting and impressive. Definitely an experience for young and old! Many dinosaurs were recreated life-sized, some skeletons were displayed, and petrified traces found during excavations were visible. Great! We could learn a lot through numerous information signs :-)

Shortly after 1 pm, we returned to the hotel. After loading the bikes, we ate the leftovers from the previous day's dinner in a quiet corner of the hotel's outdoor area and chatted with the receptionist. We started today's stage to Steimbke around 2 pm. It was pleasantly cloudy, but in the distance we could see thunderstorm clouds (and hear two thunderclaps). The landscape was characterized by fields and a few forests. Relatively quickly, after about 40 km or about 3 hours with breaks, we reached our accommodation. We still had so much time in the early evening that Jörg thoroughly cleaned and inspected the bikes. That was urgently needed! For dinner, we had delicious vegan burgers. We didn't expect such a culinary offer in this village. After that, Janina looked for a sheep to feed our old carrots to. Although we heard a "baa" sound (shortly after our arrival), we unfortunately didn't find any. So the compost bin was happy... Luckily, we mainly ate vegetarian, so we could transport finished food unrefrigerated in the brutal heat for a day!

Until midnight, we had fun with mosquitoes in the bedroom; Jörg was bitten three times on the back. The two pesky critters finally met their end. Unfortunately, the accommodation didn't have mosquito nets (why isn't this cost-effective but very useful solution yet standard?), so we could only partially open the window and had to sweat a lot... Of course, we had mosquito spray with us.
