The last few days we were in very beautiful, peaceful, remote areas largely free from the internet. On the evening after Odin's tear, we drove to Langisjór in the black lava landscape and stayed overnight at the ranger station campground after visiting the viewpoint behind the campsite. The next day, following a tip from a ranger, we hiked to the nearly 1100m high Sveinstindur. She mentioned that with very good visibility, you can see about 70 percent of Iceland from up there. After climbing about 500 meters in elevation, we reached the top and had truly excellent views of four glaciers, a seemingly endless river and lake landscape, and equally endless mountains in the most stunning colors. After the descent, we headed back towards civilization but made a detour to Odin's Tear, as the search for it was too long and the snorkeling there too impressive to pass by.

We only drove a short distance on the Ring Road to veer back into the 'Outback.' This time to Pakgil, after passing through a lava field and a gigantic river landscape, we arrived at the campground located on a small flat area surrounded by ridges about 100 meters high. When the next morning greeted us with splendid sunshine, we decided to stay and enjoyed the day with a little hike. Today, we set off back into the hectic world of the Ring Road. After replenishing our nearly depleted supplies, we discovered yet another attraction right by the Ring Road that everyone passes by. It is a cave that was inhabited as early as the 16th century. After a short walk to the rock face, a metal chain hangs from the cave about 10 meters above. The first 3-4 meters are overhanging, then it almost drops vertically to the entrance of the cave.

Then we continued to the Skjól campsite where we had been before.
