After a very pleasant evening at the Dreki Hut, we woke up this morning to strong winds. Nevertheless, we set off on the path to Askja. We made reasonable progress; contrary to the rangers' indications, there were only a few small and easily walkable old snowfields. However, we unfortunately had to turn back at about halfway. The strong wind intensified to storm level, and it started to rain. Since we were unfamiliar with the remaining route and the weather forecast for the day was also poor, we made the decision to turn back. In the afternoon, we explored the Drekagil canyon, which was very interesting, and it’s a canyon you can enter.
Afterward, we took the trail back to Camping Moedrudalur.
