Askja

This morning set off to Askja towards the Dreki Hut. The approximately 97 km long path offered a lot, water crossings, lava rocks, volcanic stone, washboard terrain, and quite deep sand - totaling about 3.5 hours. The landscape on the drive here was already breathtaking. When we hiked from the parking lot to the Askja crater, being on foot in this vastness felt completely different. Here too, of course, are indescribable impressions, and it's understandable that astronauts, including Neil Armstrong, trained here in the 1960s for the moon mission. After a few hours, we returned to camping at the Dreki Hut and took a walk to the Drekalischlucht.
