26. Day 23 by bus to Santiago

Published: 20.11.2024

After having 2 coffees, I sat down at the bus stop. The sun briefly came out, but it soon got cold. Somehow, I didn’t believe that the bus would come, because you can't rely on Google. I had even considered taking the bus to Ourense an hour later and possibly going back to yesterday's accommodation, but then the bus actually arrived. And, surprisingly, the bus was indeed going to Santiago. I felt so happy once I got on the bus. Although it seemed to stop in every small town, I had two seats to myself and could relax. It took almost 2 hours, and then I was in Santiago. Again, it felt nice, although I usually find Santiago too touristy and big, yet this place is something special for me. I arrived at the bus station and immediately looked for where Decathlon is. There is a small store in the city, but I probably wouldn’t find anything there. So, I took the bus a bit out of town. From the bus stop, I still had to walk another half hour, and then I finally arrived. And the Decathlon was really big, but there were only 2 pairs in size 48 throughout the entire store. Great selection! So I bought the better-fitting pair of shoes. Outside, I immediately disposed of my old shoes in the trash. The new ones fit, but of course, they haven't been broken in yet. And that’s exactly what I’m going to change. Instead of taking the bus, I walked back into the city. It was tiring, but it’s definitely good training. Along the way, I stopped by the supermarket and did a big shopping. I’m staying in the hostel for 2 nights, and it has a kitchen. It somehow feels wrong to arrive in Santiago by bus instead of on foot like usual, but it was the only option. Finally, I arrived at the hostel. It's located 50 meters from the cathedral, so it’s really central. I have a bed in a 4-bed room for 18€ a night and I'm more than satisfied. For the first time, I have an upper bunk in a double bed, but since I can sleep in tomorrow, it’s not so bad. I'm going to take a shower first. In the room, there’s a Dutch guy who did the Camino by bike. We chatted a bit. He will also stay here for a few more days. He then went out. I ate and now feel very full. I went to my room and curled up in my bed and only got up to brush my teeth. I am so happy and grateful for everything. I will stay here until Friday for now and then see. Theoretically, I could go back to the previous town and continue walking, but my new shoes haven't been broken in yet and I don't know what the weather will be like. Tomorrow, I'll sleep in first and then probably just stay at the accommodation because it’s supposed to rain all day, and there’s also a government weather warning for tomorrow. I got myself a block of cheese, and I still have a lot of bread from Cea. And the food was so good. Feeling full, I went to my room and lay down. Tomorrow, I will wash my laundry here and then see. I'm going to sleep now. Until tomorrow
