Still in sync with German time, we woke up early. In the still moderately filled hotel restaurant, we enjoyed a good breakfast before setting out to explore the city.
Cultural Highlights in the Morning
First, a brief visit to the Royal Ontario Museum. Since it hadn’t opened yet, we settled for the impressive architecture from the outside. Instead, we paid a visit to the Bata Shoe Museum – not hard to guess whose idea that was. But it was quite quirky and interesting, especially the special exhibition on cowboy boots with their history and famous wearers.
After that, we wandered through Kensington Market, where we enjoyed authentic Mexican food at Three Little Pigs among graffiti and second-hand shops.
The CN Tower – Breathtaking Views
In the afternoon, we finally headed to the CN Tower. First, to the lower observation deck at 346 meters: An amazing view of the city with its skyscrapers and fascinating buildings! A few steps on the glass floor gave a slight sense of unease. Then we continued to the next level – at 447 meters, the highest observation deck in the western hemisphere. In the cramped space at the top of the tower, it was even more impressive: now the tallest skyscrapers were far below us.
Evening Impressions and Return Journey
To conclude, we went to Nathan Phillips Square, where we sweetened the evening with Poutine from a food truck.
We made our return through the underground city. Although the shops were already closed, the network of underground pathways was impressive – just like an endless shopping passage.
Tomorrow, a day trip to Niagara Falls is planned. To give you a hint: This day left us in awe once again – and ended with a bitter loss.
