We spent the last two days in Whistler. There were also a few spectacular things to see here. However, the place itself is more or less a manufactured ski and mountain biking resort consisting only of hotels, restaurants, and shops, and ultimately becomes tiresome quickly. Therefore, we summarize the two days as well.
Summer Alpine Experience: Gondola Rides and Views
On Monday, we redeemed our Summer Alpine Experience Day Pass and first took the Whistler Village Gondola up to Whistler Mountain. At the top of the plateau, we enjoyed the view in all directions, took photos, went for a walk, and had ice cream.
Then we took the Peak to Peak Gondola, the cable car that takes you from Whistler Mountain to Blackcomb Mountain – 3 kilometers long and over 400 meters high above the ground.
At the top of Blackcomb Mountain, it was still a bit colder and less welcoming. But the view was phenomenal here as well. And right on the plateau among the tourists, a marmot had made itself comfortable. While I enjoyed the view with a cappuccino, the other three took another ride with the Peak to Peak back and forth to also experience the questionable pleasure of a glass-bottom gondola.
After that, we took the Blackcomb Gondola back down. Once at the bottom, we enjoyed some delicious Mexican food and checked out the shops a bit.
Sasquatch Zipline: Adrenaline for the Youth
On Tuesday, the boys had an adventure ahead of them: the Sasquatch Zipline, the longest zipline in North America, over 2 kilometers long from Blackcomb Mountain to Whistler Mountain. We are still waiting for the video footage – but it was probably a thrilling ride. On the way to the zipline, the boys also saw several bears. Luckily, this has so far eluded us adults (except for one, who crossed the highway far away).
There isn't much more to tell about Whistler. We did a little shopping and had ice cream. Ultimately, we could have made our stay here shorter. But now the batteries are recharged for the next leg of our journey to Vancouver Island.
