Yesterday we took the ferry to Bali. It quickly became apparent that Bali is very different from Sumatra and Java.
Culturally, Bali differs significantly from the rest of Indonesia, as it is predominantly Hindu. Each family has its own temple in front of their house to honor gods and ancestors.
What stands out the most, however, is that the island is marked by mass tourism. Everywhere around our hotel, there are construction sites where new hotels are being built. In Java and Sumatra, we felt we could immerse ourselves in Indonesian culture. Here, due to the extreme tourism, that is much more difficult.
