Moʻorea

Today we had a full-day excursion to Moʻorea. We took the ferry from Tahiti, traveling about 20km to the neighboring island of Moʻorea. It is very similar to Tahiti, but older and noticeably smaller due to erosion. It has around 17,000 residents, and the highest mountain, Mont Tohiveʻa, rises to about 1,200m.

We first went snorkeling on a catamaran, where we could see various fish, sharks, and stingrays up close. Until two years ago, they were still attracted with food. That is now prohibited, but they still come.

After that, we enjoyed local food at a beautiful beach for swimming and snorkeling. They demonstrated how they extract coconut milk and prepare ceviche.
