Last night, it was very windy, rainy, and there was lightning. Throughout the entire morning, there were storms and it rained as if in the tropics. The local farmers are apparently glad for the rain since it had been dry for a long time. It rained so heavily that certain meadows and fields are now underwater. The animals are happy about it too, as they had to put in a lot of effort to find water until now.
Our travel agency suggested that it might be more interesting if we spent the night in two different places on the island. So today, we moved from American River to the main town of Kingscote.
On the way to Kingscote, we looked out for koalas and actually saw some. They were soaked from the storm, and the trees were swaying strongly due to the still strong wind. Occasionally, they opened their eyes and nibbled on a few leaves. They were really cute.
In Kingscote, we settled into the new hotel. It has a slightly lower standard than the last one. The strong wind whistles through here quite everywhere. But we have several rooms and again a direct view of the sea.
Then we walked through the town. It’s more of a small 'village' with just under 2,000 residents. However, they have a partly renatured coastline. We walked along this, observed playful and relaxing sea lions, saw whole groups of pelicans, spotted a wallaby in the underbrush, and took photos of many birds.
