Kakadu National Park, Jabiru, Australia, Day 3

Today we are on a full-day tour conducted by Indigenous people. It takes us through areas that are normally closed to tourists. Since there is still a lot of water in the floodplains, the route has been changed. We could not reach an Indigenous group as planned because they are still inaccessible via the road. Instead, we took a 4WD vehicle cross-country into the outback. This allowed us to see the landscape again: hills, rocks, savannah, waterways, many ancient sites of the Indigenous ancestors, and numerous rock art. Our guide, who apparently also belongs to the Indigenous community, spoke about their way of life, practices, and current issues. We made a stop next to a currently closed uranium mine located beneath one of the most sacred sites for the Indigenous people, where the world was created, and changes to this place could lead to a disaster or the apocalypse. In the evening we had to drive back to our lodge since the start and end of the tour was a short hour away. We also filled up gas and are now certain that our vehicle consumes a lot of fuel.
