Farewell to the southernmost latitude of our journey: Queenstown at 45 degrees

Today we head north again. This refers not only to the north of New Zealand but also to the northern hemisphere of the world. So far, we have been traveling steadily south from Cologne, which is located at 50 degrees north latitude, thus moving down the latitudes. After crossing the equator at 0 degrees latitude, we have effectively gone downhill. We often crossed various southern latitudes until we reached Queenstown, which is at 45 degrees south latitude. Therefore, we are at the southernmost latitude on this trip. Queenstown is even situated below Tasmania, under Australia. The next stop would be Antarctica, which is not very far away... Antarctica is located at 60 degrees south latitude. The distance from Queenstown to the first direct land point of Antarctica is not that far, I estimate about 3 to 4000 kilometers. The southernmost regions in the world now only include the southern tip of Argentina and Chile, near Punta Arenas.

It’s quite impressive to realize that we are here in Queenstown and have crossed around 100 latitudes...

Sometimes we also need to remind ourselves of where we are on Earth. Especially since it looks so European here, and we often hear the German language, it lacks the feeling of being somewhere completely different... We could also be in Austria... J - but thankfully we are not.
