Just over two years ago, we spent several days in Palermo. I believe it is a wonderful place with much morbid charm. I had already summarized the highlights of the city for you back then:

So now a brief second stop as part of a cruise. Since this time we had the luxury of not having to disembark at any particular destination, it felt like a continuation of our previous visit. We could simply let ourselves drift.

However, I wanted to visit a few small things that unfortunately were under construction.

Note to self: Visit the roofless church of Santa Maria dello Spasimo and the roof area of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria (right next to the Martorana) again on the next visit.

I have a very special tip for you: The Palazzo Butera! This building, meticulously renovated and privately owned, has been beautifully staged. Every room and every piece of art was perfectly illuminated, a dream for any hobby photographer. We were also lucky to have most of the rooms almost to ourselves. The 10 Euro entrance fee is definitely worth it.
